Ok, enough chit-chat. What’s today’s question?
What’s One Thing I Should Do Every Sunday?
Walk.
Seriously…that’s the whole secret.
Walk like someone who doesn’t have an agenda. Walk like you’re browsing life instead of rushing through it.
There is no simpler, cheaper, or more reliable way to reset a human being than a 20–30 minute walk. A walk doesn’t require a membership, an app, a heart-rate monitor, or a guru. It requires shoes (any kind), air (any temperature), and a willingness to put one foot in front of the other.
Over the years, I’ve made more life decisions while walking than in any office, meeting, therapy session, or late-night anxiety spiral. Walking unclutters your brain. It sorts the emotional laundry. It shuffles thoughts into the correct drawers.
You don’t have to march with purpose. You don’t have to “hit steps.” You don’t need to analyze anything. Just get outside, even if the weather is doing something weird — which, in Colorado, is most of the time. I’ve walked in sunshine, snow flurries, sideways sleet, and those “mystery winds” that blow only on your street.
And when you’re retired, walking is the closest thing to meditation that won’t make you fall asleep.
Your knees might complain. Your back might negotiate. Your ankles might write formal letters of protest. But movement is life. Every step you take says, “I’m still in the game.”
So this Sunday, step outside. Walk slowly. Look around. Notice the sky, the trees, the mountains, your breath, your thoughts. Let the world widen a little. Let your heart stretch out.
Walking won’t fix everything.
But it fixes enough to matter.

If your coffee’s still warm, so are these:

Well I’ll tell you it’s all ice and cold as heck down here. A 20-30 or even 10 minute walk might be the recipe for a sprain and/frostbite. So this Sunday I’ll sit down by the fireplace with a good book, a glass of wine and take this long walk in my mind.
You are so right on target! Walking gives me energy, flushes the nonsense out of my brain and reminds me that I'm still alive, and want to be. Thank you for your no-nonsense approach to a perfect Sunday.
