1. Costco Samples Are Now a Full-Contact Sport
This week I learned that the real Olympic Games take place in the aisles of Costco.
I watched a man hip-check another man for a mini-quesadilla.
And honestly?
I admired the commitment.
At this stage of life, I’m not looking for drama, but if it’s happening at the free sample table, I will absolutely spectate.
2. Weather Apps Are Pure Fiction
According to three weather apps, my neighborhood was supposed to get:
“Light flurries”
“Blue skies”
“Severe wind advisory”
…all at the same time.
What I actually got: freezing wind and a neighbor chasing his recycling bin into the street like it owed him money.
Sundays may be for reflection,
but Fridays are clearly for meteorological lies.
3. A New Life Lesson: Don’t Bend Down Fast After Age 60
Remember when you could pick something up off the floor in one smooth motion?
Me neither.
Now I have to warm up like I’m entering the Olympics:
hand on the counter
knees braced
full planning session
prayer
a noise that definitely wasn’t there in my 40s
Small movements now require large gratitude.
4. Flashback: The Time My Band Got Paid in Beer
Reading about musicians struggling today reminded me of the 500+ gigs I played as a bass player — and how most nights we were compensated with:
$50
Beer tickets
“Exposure”
A long 1AM load-out that counted as cardio
To any young musicians reading:
If a nightclub promises “great exposure,” run.
You can expose yourself to the flu for free.
5. This Week’s Unexpected Gratitude
I am genuinely grateful for the 15 quiet minutes I get in the morning before my brain wakes up enough to explain all the things I should worry about today.
Coffee tastes better in those minutes.
Life feels softer.
Age feels like an asset.
And being here — after everything — feels like a gift.
