1. The Remote That Disappears On Purpose
I had it a second ago. I know I did.
It doesn’t just leave like that, unless remotes have developed instincts, which I am no longer ruling out.
I checked the usual spots: cushions, armrest, beside the chair.
Found it in my hand.
We did not discuss it.
2. The Light I Turn Off Twice
I leave the room, flip the switch, and keep walking.
Then something doesn’t feel settled.
I go back to check, and there it is: already off, minding its own business while I question my entire operating system.
3. The Email I Marked Unread As A System
I opened it, understood it, and immediately marked it unread so Future Me could handle it.
Future Me, it turns out, is no more qualified.
Now we both know about the email, and neither of us is taking responsibility.
4. The List That Keeps Growing Quietly
I write one thing down just to remember. Nothing ambitious.
Then another appears. And one more after that.
By the end of the day, the list looks like I had plans, which is how small errands become a management position.
5. This Week’s Unexpected Gratitude
A familiar routine that asked very little and gave me more than expected.
Same chair. Same room. Same quiet.
Some days, that is plenty.
